Visiting Tintagel Castle is a truly unique experience, but it requires some planning. Here are my top travel tips to make your visit as smooth and enjoyable as possible:

Check the Tides and Weather

• Tintagel Castle is a coastal site, and access to certain areas, like the beach and Merlin's Cave, is tide-dependent. Check tide times before your visit.
• Cornwall's weather can be unpredictable. Be prepared for wind, rain, and sunshine. Layers are essential.

Book Tickets in Advance

• Tintagel Castle is a popular attraction, especially during peak season. Booking tickets online in advance is highly recommended to avoid long queues and ensure entry.
• If you are an English Heritage member, entry is free. If not, the admission prices and opening times are accessible here.
• Tintagel Castle is dog-friendly and dogs are welcome everywhere but please note there are lots of steps, cliff edges and nesting birds so please keep them safe on leads.

Wear Comfortable Footwear

• The site involves a lot of walking, often on uneven and steep terrain. Sturdy, comfortable shoes are a must.
• Be prepared for many steps.

Allow Plenty of Time

• Exploring the castle ruins and surrounding areas takes time. Allow at least 2-3 hours to fully appreciate the site.
• Factor in time to walk down to the beach, and back up again.

Consider Accessibility

• Due to the site's rugged terrain, accessibility can be challenging. There are steep inclines and steps.
• English Heritage has made many improvements to accessibility, so check their website for the most up to date information.
• The Tintagel Land Rover service is no longer operating. There is an interim transport service in place, taking visitors from the village to the castle. While not fully accessible, this service can accommodate fold-up wheelchairs; please contact Tintagel Castle if you'd like to discuss your accessibility needs before visiting. They are hoping to launch a fully accessible solution later in the 2025.

• Bring water, snacks, and sunscreen, especially on sunny days.
• A camera is essential to capture the stunning views.
