Imagine a monumental structure that perfectly frames both the historical heart and the modern skyline of Dubai.

Welcome to the Dubai Frame, an architectural wonder that offers a breathtaking journey through the city's evolution. From panoramic views of Old Dubai to the glittering skyscrapers of New Dubai, this iconic landmark provides a unique perspective on the city's remarkable transformation. Let us guide you through the experience of stepping through this incredible frame.

Ticket Information

It's highly recommended to purchase your tickets online through the official Dubai Frame website or authorised platforms. This secures your entry and can save you valuable time. While we pre-booked our tickets online, we experienced a significant wait upon arrival. In our personal opinion, the attraction itself didn't entirely justify the lengthy queue, though this is subjective and may vary depending on individual preferences.

history of the dubai frame

The Dubai Frame is an iconic architectural landmark in Dubai, conceived to represent a metaphorical bridge between the city's past, present, and future.

Its origins trace back to a 2008 design competition organized by ThyssenKrupp Elevator and Dubai Municipality, which was won by Mexican architect Fernando Donis. Despite some controversy regarding intellectual property rights during its development, construction began in 2013.

The massive rectangular structure, standing 150 meters tall and 93 meters wide, officially opened to the public on January 1, 2018. Located in Zabeel Park, it's strategically positioned to offer panoramic views: framing "Old Dubai" to the north and "New Dubai" (with its modern skyscrapers) to the south.

Inside, visitors can explore galleries depicting Dubai's evolution from a fishing village to a global metropolis, and a future gallery envisioning what the city might look like decades from now. The top of the frame features a glass-bottomed bridge for a thrilling walk, making it a unique observation deck and a popular tourist attraction.

Choose the Optimal Time to Visit

  • Sunrise: Offers stunning views as the city awakens and the light casts a beautiful glow. It's also typically less crowded.
  • Sunset: Provides a spectacular panoramic view as the city lights begin to twinkle against the fading daylight. This is a popular time, so book your tickets well in advance.
  • Daytime: Offers clear views of both Old and New Dubai, allowing you to easily identify landmarks.

Helpful considerations

  • Allow Sufficient Time: Plan to spend at least 1-2 hours at the Dubai Frame. This includes time for security checks, ascending and descending, enjoying the views from the Skydeck, and exploring the interactive exhibits on the mezzanine level showcasing Dubai's past and future.
  • Consider the Weather: Dubai can get extremely hot, especially during the summer months. If visiting during this time, opt for an early morning or late afternoon/evening visit to avoid the peak heat. The Skydeck is air-conditioned, providing a comfortable viewing experience.
  • Utilise the Elevators: High-speed panoramic elevators whisk you up to the Skydeck, offering a preview of the stunning views to come.
  • Experience the Clear Glass Walkway: The highlight for many is the 50-meter long opaque glass walkway in the middle of the Skydeck. It becomes transparent when you step on it, offering a thrilling view directly down to the ground. Be prepared if you have a fear of heights!
  • Explore the Interactive Exhibits: Don't miss the immersive exhibitions on the mezzanine level. One side showcases the history and heritage of Old Dubai through multimedia displays, while the other offers a glimpse into Dubai's futuristic visions.
  • Photography Opportunities: The Dubai Frame offers incredible photo opportunities from all angles. Capture the contrasting skylines, the architectural details of the Frame itself, and the unique perspective from the glass walkway.
  • Dress Respectfully: While Dubai is generally liberal, it's advisable to dress modestly, especially when visiting cultural attractions. Shoulders and knees should ideally be covered.
  • Accessibility: The Dubai Frame is generally accessible for people with disabilities, with elevators providing access to most areas. Check the official website for specific accessibility information.
  • Transportation Options: The Dubai Frame is easily accessible by car, taxi, and public transport. The nearest metro station is Al Jafiliya Metro Station, from which you can take a short taxi or bus ride. This attraction does offer free parking.
  • Combine with Zabeel Park: The Dubai Frame is located within Zabeel Park, a large and family-friendly recreational area. Consider combining your visit with a stroll through the park or enjoying its other attractions.
  • Check for Special Events: The Dubai Frame occasionally hosts special events or light shows. Check their official website or local listings for any happenings during your visit.
