Prepare to elevate your Toronto experience – literally! The CN Tower, soaring majestically over the city skyline, isn't just an architectural marvel; it's a quintessential Toronto landmark and an unforgettable must-visit. From its breathtaking observation decks, you'll gain unparalleled panoramic views, stretching from the bustling city below to the distant shores of Lake Ontario and beyond.
Imagine seeing Toronto's vibrant mosaic unfold beneath you, a truly unique perspective that captures the scale and beauty of Canada's largest city. Whether you're seeking an exhilarating view, a thrilling EdgeWalk experience, or simply want to tick off an iconic landmark, the CN Tower promises a memorable highlight for your Toronto adventure.
To ensure your visit to this Canadian landmark is as smooth and enjoyable as possible, here are our top tips:
- Book Your Tickets in Advance (Essential!): The CN Tower is a hugely popular attraction, and queues can be long, especially during peak season, weekends, and holidays. Save valuable vacation time by purchasing your tickets online well in advance through the official CN Tower website or a reputable reseller. This often allows you to select a specific date and time slot.
- Go Early or Later in the Day: To avoid the biggest crowds, aim for the first hour after opening or the last couple of hours before closing. Mid-day is typically the busiest.
- Consider a Sunset Visit (with a strategy): While incredibly popular for stunning photos, sunset can also be the busiest time. If you opt for sunset, book your ticket for about an hour before the actual sunset time to allow for security, elevator waits, and to get a good spot. This way, you'll see the city in daylight, during sunset, and as the city lights up. We highly recommend this option, as it proved to be a truly fabulous experience during our own visit!
- Prioritise the SkyPod (if views are your main goal): For the absolute highest public observation deck, ensure your ticket includes access to the SkyPod. While the Main Observation Level is impressive, the SkyPod offers an even more expansive view. We opted for this experience at sunset during our visit, and it was truly spectacular. The views were absolutely worth the approximate $10 per person add-on fee. While we managed to do this on the day, we always recommend pre-booking to avoid disappointment.
- Step Onto the Glass Floor (if you dare!): The Glass Floor on the Main Observation Level is a must-try for many. It's safe, but exhilarating. Be patient, as it can get crowded with people taking photos.
- Dining with a View: 360 Restaurant: For a truly elevated experience (and often a way to bypass general admission lines for the main observation deck), consider making a reservation at the 360 Restaurant. The restaurant slowly rotates, offering incredible changing views while you dine. Note that there's usually a minimum spend, but this can be a more relaxed way to enjoy the heights.
- The EdgeWalk: For the Ultimate Thrill-Seeker: If you're looking for an adrenaline rush, the EdgeWalk is an unparalleled experience where you literally walk hands-free on the outside ledge of the tower's main pod. This requires a separate booking, is weather-dependent, and is a significant additional cost. Book this far in advance if interested!
- Allocate Enough Time: Plan for at least 1.5 to 2.5 hours for your visit, including ticketing, security, elevator rides, and time to enjoy the different observation levels and attractions. If you're dining or doing the EdgeWalk, allow significantly more time.
- Security Checkpoints: Be prepared for airport-style security checks. Avoid bringing large bags, sharp objects, or anything that might delay your entry.
- Check the Weather: While the Tower is an indoor experience, clear skies will obviously provide the best visibility. Check the forecast before your planned visit for optimal views.
- Combine with Nearby Attractions: The CN Tower is located in the vibrant Entertainment District, right next to Ripley's Aquarium of Canada, Rogers Centre (home of the Toronto Blue Jays), and Harbourfront Centre. Consider combining your visit with one of these nearby attractions to make a full day of it.
