Travel Tips: Singapore Cable Car

Embark on a breathtaking aerial adventure with Singapore's iconic cable car, offering unparalleled panoramic views of the city's vibrant cityscape, lush greenery, and stunning waterfront. More than just a mode of transport, the cable car ride is an unforgettable experience that provides a unique perspective of Singapore's beauty. Whether you're a first-time visitor or a seasoned traveller, this elevated journey is a must-do for a truly memorable Singapore experience.

Riding the Singapore Cable Car is a fantastic way to see the city, but here are some top travel tips to make the most of your experience.

Planning & Timing

  • Check Operating Hours: The cable car operates daily, but hours can vary. Check the official website for the most up-to-date schedule.
  • Purchase Tickets in Advance: Especially during peak hours or weekends, pre-booking tickets online can save you time waiting in line. Pre-bookable tickets are available for both lines (Mount Faber & Sentosa).
  • Consider a Round-Trip Ticket: A round-trip ticket is generally more cost-effective than a one-way ticket if you plan to return to your starting point. Since we were staying on Sentosa Island, we took a round-trip cable car ride to Singapore. This allowed us to fully appreciate the route from both perspectives, and I can confidently say, the views were absolutely spectacular in each direction!
  • Time Your Ride for Sunset: The sunset views from the cable car are spectacular. Plan your ride accordingly for a truly magical experience.
  • Avoid Peak Hours: Weekends and public holidays tend to be busier. If possible, ride during weekdays or off-peak hours to avoid crowds.

Maximising Your Experience

  • Choose the Right Cabin: Some cabins offer special experiences, like dining or themed rides. Check for these options when booking.
  • Bring a Camera: The panoramic views are perfect for capturing stunning photos and videos.
  • Arrive Early: Arrive at the boarding station early, especially if you haven't pre-booked, to avoid potential queues.
  • Wear Comfortable Clothing: You'll be seated for the duration of the ride, but comfortable clothing will enhance your experience.
  • Check the Weather: Singapore's weather can be unpredictable. Check the forecast before your ride and bring an umbrella or poncho if necessary.

Navigating the cable car System

cable car routes

mount faber line

  • Purpose: This is the older and primary line, serving as the aerial link between mainland Singapore and Sentosa Island.
  • Route: It starts at Mount Faber Station (Faber Peak) on the mainland, travels over HarbourFront Station (near VivoCity shopping mall), and then crosses Keppel Harbour to reach Sentosa Station on Sentosa Island.
  • Views: This line provides breathtaking panoramic views of the Singapore city skyline, Keppel Harbour, lush greenery of Mount Faber, and the sparkling waters as you cross over to Sentosa. You'll see cruise ships, industrial areas, and the developing Sentosa landscape from above.
  • Duration: A one-way ride on the Mount Faber Line typically takes around 13-15 minutes, and a round trip can be 26-30 minutes.
  • New Cabins: This line also features the newer SkyOrb Cabins, which are chrome-finished, spherical, and offer 360-degree views, including a see-through floor for a truly immersive experience.
  • Arriving/Departing from Mount Faber (Singapore Mainland): If your journey via cable car takes you between Sentosa Island and Singapore, you'll travel through Mount Faber. This stop offers fabulous views of Sentosa Island, which you can enjoy for free. We highly recommend a stop at Arbora @ Mount Faber Peak, a very reasonably priced restaurant with equally stunning vistas. Our lunch there was fantastic and excellent value for the location – a definite recommendation for anyone using the cable car! Just a few minutes' walk from the cable car station exit and opposite Arbora's entrance, you'll also find Poland's Bells of Happiness, offering a wonderful photo opportunity.

Sentosa Line

  • Purpose: This line is an intra-island cable car system, meaning it operates entirely within Sentosa Island to connect various attractions.
  • Route: It runs between Siloso Point Station, Imbiah Lookout Station, and Merlion Station (now near Sensoryscape/Central Beach Bazaar as the Merlion statue is gone).
  • Views: The Sentosa Line offers a different perspective, focusing on the island's attractions. You'll glide over the island's jungle foliage, catch glimpses of Universal Studios Singapore, Adventure Cove Waterpark, Skyline Luge, Madame Tussauds, and the beaches like Siloso Beach.
  • Duration: A one-way ride on the Sentosa Line is shorter, typically around 6-8 minutes, with a round trip taking about 12-15 minutes.

Key Differences

The crucial difference is that the Mount Faber Line connects the mainland to the island, while the Sentosa Line helps you get around within Sentosa Island. They are not physically connected. If you want to transfer from the Mount Faber Line to the Sentosa Line (or vice-versa), you'll need to disembark at Sentosa Station (Mount Faber Line) and take a short 3-5 minute walk to Imbiah Lookout Station (Sentosa Line).

A Cable Car Sky Pass (Round Trip) typically includes one-time access to all stations on both the Mount Faber and Sentosa lines, allowing you to explore extensively.

Accessibility: wheelchair users

Manual wheelchair users are welcome aboard the Singapore Cable Car; all stations are equipped with lifts for easy access. However, please note that motorised wheelchairs are not permitted due to safety regulations.

Enjoy the Ride!

  • Relax and Enjoy the Views: The cable car ride is a relaxing way to see Singapore. Take your time and enjoy the stunning scenery.
  • Listen to the Commentary: Some cabins offer audio commentary about the sights you're seeing.
  • Look for Wildlife: You might spot birds or other wildlife during your ride. We even caught sight of a turtle swimming in the bay from the cable car – truly an amazing sight!
  • Consider a Dining Experience: Some cable car rides offer dining options, which can be a unique and romantic experience.
  • Plan for Sentosa Activities: The cable car is a great way to get to Sentosa Island. Plan activities on the island for after the ride.
